THE D.T. FLEMING ARBORETUM AT PU‘U MAHOE 2016

Fleming Arboretum hosts outer-island WCC Event

The IUCN World Conservation Conference, September 1-10, 2016 is being held in the United States for the first time since the beginning of the International Union of Conservation of Nature more than 65 years ago.  Hawaii was chosen to host this important global event for its great diversity of native plants, wildlife and ecosystems. The Indigenous Crop Biodiversity Festival featuring indigenous crop biodiversity and biodiversity conservation is a recognized Parallel Event happening on Maui August 24-30, a week in advance of the Congress.

WEEKEND- SPECIAL EVENT PU‘U MAHOE TOUR & PICNIC

PuuMahoe-469includes a 2 hour guided tour of native plants and wildlife within the Pu‘u Mahoe Cinder Cone and the D.T. Fleming Arboretum, learning
Maui’s history, culture and importance of preserving native plants.
The event includes refreshments before the hike, a picnic overlooking “a commanding View “of La Perouse Bay”, delicious & healthy
Maui-made cuisine and the Fleming signature desert: “Purple Cows.”

10AM to 2PM event with Arboretum open to 5PM.
$150 donation per person. Minimum 4 to maximum 60 people

Pu‘u Mahoe’s unique location makes it a most memorable place to hold a special event.
Use of the workshop pavilion & historic cabin/picnic area with a 360 view from South Maui shoreline to the cinder cones of Haleakala

9AM to 5PM Saturdays and Sundays. Maximum 60 people @ $2,000/day

12 seat vans are recommended.
Includes optional Arboretum tour.

Gate monitors and parking directors are included in the cost.

YOUTH AND COMMUNITY/YOUTH GROUPS FIELD DAYS AND VOLUNTEER WORK DAYS

Held on selected Saturdays throughout the year. The work day includes an educational workshop followed by field work learning to properly plant and care of native plants.

 

Pu‘u Mahoe Events support the Fleming Arboretum’s conservation work through native plant preservation projects and educational programs-

For the preservation of Pu‘u Mahoe, of Hawaii’s native species

And restoration of South Maui’s dry land forest.
